The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has been evaluating snow & ice control operations and gathering input from employees and the public throughout the past few months. We have listened and heard concerns from the traveling public about snow and ice control in the areas where section shops were closed. We have decided to adjust our Operations for the 2018-19 Winter Season in the areas of Litchville, Courtenay, New England, Fessenden, Mayville, Gackle and Finley (Starkweather section shop is open).
The NDDOT is declaring December 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019 as a winter storm event. Following the legislation that was passed last session this means that a current department employee located within the vicinity of one of the closed sections may now be assigned to start their route from that location. If there is no current full-time employee in the area NDDOT will advertise to hire a temporary seasonal employee. For the safety of our snowplow operators, equipment work or repair will still need to take place in a different shop location where there is more than one person.
We are committed to providing a safe and efficient transportation system for motorists. As required by state legislation we are also conducting an Optimization Study of our snow and ice control operations throughout the winter season. We value your input and continue to collect public feedback through focus groups in rural communities and a survey which is currently available on our website at dot.nd.gov or at this direct link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SnowAndIceControlSurvey
